About the Tutors

All the tutors are members of the School Practical Philosophy and they have many years of experience in learning and teaching Sanskrita. They all have written different levels of the Sanskrita exams offered by The Cambridge University International Education.

Bhadrasheila Valla

Bhadrasheila has been studying the Sanskrita language for over 10 years.

"What started out as a reason to keep my mind active and stave off Alzheimer's Disease has turned into a passion. The study of the language has exposed me to a wide variety of Vedic literature which has kept me spiritually and academically challenged with the need for constant improvement."

Over the years, she has written three academic exams with the AS exams being the most recent. She is part of team of students who are currently studying grammar rules as well as the Shrimad Bhagvatam. "These studies ensure that I am always being challenged by this amazing language."

Harini Ambelal

Harini has a passion for Indian music and Vedic sounding. She has been studying and teaching music for many years, and has been involved in devotional singing (bhajan and kirtan).

Harini has taught Foundation Phase pupils and recently facilitated home schooling. She currently has a major interest in teaching Sanskrit, both written and sounding, to interested students who have no background in the Sanskrit language.

Niroo Nathoo

Niroo has been a student of the School of Practical Philosophy for many years. "While studying the scriptures I realized the need for a deeper understanding. Thus arose the opportunity to study Sanskrit. The language has taken me in-depth, not only in the scriptures but also in the language itself. I found reciting Vedic prayers most beneficial, due to the understanding of their meanings."

Niroo has completed three of the Cambridge exams viz. Option A, Option B, and the new IGCSE course.

"The love of the language has taken me personally to greater heights. I would encourage everyone to take up the study of this beautiful language."

Mahendra Bhana

Mahendra has been studying Sanskrit for many years during which four exams have been written through the University of Cambridge - International Examinations.

Through the studies he has been exposed to the Bhagavad Geeta, Ramayana, Manu Smriti and various Upanishads which all have contributed to his spiritual development.

"Learning Sanskrit is a fascinating journey where the wonders of the language are endless. What is the use of all the learning if it is not shared with others? Hence it gives me immense joy and pleasure to impart all that I have learnt with anyone interested."

"You take one step and I will take two steps to help you".

How the Courses Work

The classes are all conducted online via Zoom.

There are three terms in a year, starting in January, May and September. Each term runs for 10 weeks.

In order to embed the lessons homework will be given (about 1 hour per week).
