At the Beginners Level, emphasis is placed on the sounding and writing of the Sanskrit alphabet. This course is used as a launch pad to delve into a deeper study of the language. This level gives participants a glimpse into the glory of the Sanskrit language.

Course Content

The course is designed to teach the basics of the Sanskrit language, namely:

  • Emphasis is placed on the sounding and writing of the Sanskrit alphabet.
  • Within the Sanskrit alphabet, each unique grouping in different families, based upon mouth positions and articulations.
  • The vowels and consonants – with their measures and articulation.
  • Conjunct consonants and simple words.

Outcomes

At the end of the course students will:

  • Know the Sanskrit alphabet.
  • Be aware of the various combinations of Sanskrit vowels and consonants.
  • Be able to read simple words.

The use of breaking words into smaller parts to learn how to say the full word was really good. It showed us how to pronounce each letter in a word and which sound to stress.

Really enjoyed the class. The Material is well presented and follows a logical sequence. The format of learning to write the alphabets and sound them at the same time, was really good. The use of voice notes with the correct pronunciation is also really usefully when doing homework in the week.
